Stephanie Smith Not Afraid Stories Behind the Songs
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com
NOT AFRAID
"Not Afraid" came to be one evening when Jamie Moore brought a melody to the table. He kept singing "not afraid" over the hook, but we had trouble taking it anywhere from there. As Aaron Rice began exploring other hook options, I became more and more attached to "not afraid." After a frustrating hour or so, we moved on to try working the verse first. It clicked immediately, and a very relatable topic for everyone was birthed.
This song means a lot to me, you see I am a huge communicator and I place a lot of value on relationships. I like to think that most of my relationships are very healthy and that I can learn from all of them, but the reality is people come and go in our lives, even the good and bad comes and goes. There is only One who remains consistent and He is faithful to meet us right where we are.
Luke 1:45 says, "And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what had been spoken to her by the Lord." You are blessed for believing that the Lord would keep his promise to you.
SUPERSTAR
"Superstar" was the first song Jamie Moore, Aaron Rice, and I wrote together as a team. Before we began the session, we spent some time in prayer and getting to know each other. What was dominantly on my heart this particular evening, was the idea of encouraging God's creation, specifically teenage girls. To conceptualize an anthem from the eyes of the Father, proclaiming that every single one--male, female, born, unborn--is unique and plays an irreplaceable role in his plan and purpose; that’s exciting to me.
The song is delivered in a simple, fun package as the chorus sings, "I may be just a girl to you, you don't have to listen if you don't want to..." It's non-threatening, and it never claims to "know it all," however it is my hope that we would embrace and start living our true identity... Children made in the image of the Living God.

Superchic[k] "Super Trouper" / Editor's Currently Listening To
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com
Hi InTheTimes.com Girls!
I'm currently listening to the single "Super Trouper" by Superchic[k] from the album Karaoke Superstars !
My fav lyrics? "You were meant to live large / Come on take charge / Let's go light the world up / Let's not wait until the end / To be the things we wish we'd been / You were meant to live life / Come on let's fly / You're a super trouper spotlight / We're gonna jump on the count of three / Here it comes now / One, two, three, jump"
Superchic[k]'s music is so fun, yet so profound and thought-provoking! How inspiring to remember that God made us to live life large! (see Deuteronomy 28:1-14) Despite all circumstances (good and bad) we have to make the personal decision to take control of our life, follow the Lord, and fly into His destiny for our life!
If you haven't heard the single, click the link above to preview it for free!
Have an awesome day! RUTH
