Chelsie Boyd "Tis So Sweet" / Editor's Currently Listening To

Friday, December 5th, 2008 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

Hi InTheTimes.com Girls!

Chelsie Boyd's single "Tis So Sweet" is currently on mega-repeat! My fav lyrics? "Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus / Just to take Him at His word / Just to rest upon His promise / Just to know thus saith the Lord"

It is truly "sweet" as the slang goes, to trust in the Lord Jesus and 'to take Him at His word' Everytime I sit down to read from the Bible, I am reminded of this! There truly is comfort in knowing 'thus saith the Lord' in all of the craziness of life!

If you haven't heard the single, click the link above to preview it for free!

Talk Soon,
RUTH

Krissy Nordhoff Interview / On Downpour

Thursday, December 4th, 2008 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

InTheTimes.com Entertainment Channel Krissy Nordhoff Interview On Downpour Thanks for reading my InTheTimes.com feature! Click here to visit my web site for more info!

ITT: Your recent album release is called "Downpour" tell the InTheTimes.com girls why you chose this as the title?

Krissy: I chose Downpour as the title because that is literally how I felt when the songs came to me. Most of the songs were written in a 2 month period of time and I really felt as if the Lord poured out creativity and inspiration over me.

ITT: Downpour includes great collaborations with favorite InTheTimes.com Recording Artists, Cherie Adams [former Avalon member], the Annie Moses Band, and Phil Joel [former Newsboys member], what was it like working with such wonderful artists?

Krissy: It is an honor to work with such amazing artists. It makes the recording process feel easy and very fun when you get the opportunity to work with such talented musicians. Not only are they all very gifted musically, but they are outstanding people in general.

Cherie and I met a couple of years ago and immediately hit it off, she actually lives in my subdivision. Cherie has become a great friend that can make me laugh in any situation, that makes it so fun to work with her. She actually co-wrote Lay It All Down with me and my Producer Paul. Cherie's vocal part on the song is amazing, we've even had the chance to sing it live together.

I've known the Annie Moses Band for a couple of years as well. We met them by way of the music industry, as my husband was helping with their distribution. They are one of the greatest family role models to our family, we really enjoy them. Bill Wolaver [AMB's father] arranged all of the string parts they played on the album. I will never forget playing live with them, it was truly heavenly!

Phil Joel is also a friend that Eric met through his business. Phil and his wife Heather, have an amazing ministry, Deliberate People, which is fantastic. Phil is an accomplished artist, so I am truly humbled that he came in to sing on my project. I love his voice, and the way it contrasted with mine.

ITT: Give the InTheTimes.com girls a behind the scenes idea of what it's like recording an album--how long does it typically take to complete one song, do you basically 'live' in the studio during this process, etc.

Krissy: This album was a little different for me in that the songwriting process came together very quickly. The recording process itself took a little longer.

I had a great Producer, Paul Buono. We began laying down rough demos of the songs in September, then we basically "built on" to the demos, starting with the drums. We added one instrument at a time, except for the live string tracks, which the Annie Moses Band did.

This seems to be one of the newest ways to do an album, since so many players have home studios. You literally just bring over the files, and they play their part in. We finished recording in early March, it was sent off to be mastered, and then manufactured. It was done completely the first week in April, so I guess it took a total of 6 1/2 months.

ITT: Any advice / encouragement for InTheTimes.com girls who desire to be a professional singer like yourself?

Krissy: I remember being a teenager at a youth convention and our musician for the weekend told me the best piece of advice I think I've ever received in regards to being a singer. They said, "Sing every opportunity you get." I've remembered this advice over the years, and still try to take every opportunity.

I believe you can learn something from every situation, whether it's which songs minister to people more effectively, or what to do when the sound system cuts out. It can mean singing for the homeless, traveling to other countries, or singing worship at your own church. If you remain teachable and put your heart into what you do, God will teach you more, the more you do it.

Korey Cooper Interview

Wednesday, December 3rd, 2008 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

InTheTimes.com Entertainment Channel Korey Cooper Interview Thanks for reading my InTheTimes.com feature! Click here to visit my web site for more info!

ITT: When did your love of music start? We know that you play the guitar and keyboard with Skillet, are there any other instruments that you play? How did you get started with these instruments?

Korey: I have loved music since I was a young kid. I have Italian heritage, and that side of the family are musically gifted and music lovers. There is always a spontaneous a capella song at every get together.

When I was in first grade, my music teacher talked with my parents and told them there were some music abilities there and encouraged them to help me explore them. So my parents sat down with me and asked what I would like to play and I said guitar and piano. My parents said that I had to pick one instrument and then research it.

Everyone recommended the piano first, as it is a great foundational instrument for every other instrument. I started piano lessons when I was 9, so the piano is definitely my primary instrument. I started playing the guitar a few years ago, I’m still not terribly comfortable on it, but my good sense of rhythm helps me make my way through.

ITT: Any advice / encouragement for InTheTimes.com girls who desire to be a professional Musician like yourself?

Korey: My best advice would be to hold your dreams loosely and continually offer them to the Lord.

Your life must be rooted in an absolutely surrendered trust in the Lord and His control of your life, His purposes for all eternity, and where you fit in to all of that.

His way is always best, and your desire to make a difference in your short time on this earth must not be self-motivated. It must start with losing your identity in Christ, or as Psalm 37:4 calls it, delighting yourself in the Lord.

Then, hold on to the promise, which is the second half of the verse, 'and He will give you the desires of your heart'. He has placed those desires in you and given you the gifts that you have. It is your responsibility to discipline yourself and become excellent in those areas. Practice, practice, practice. Find your expression and continue to practice.

Don’t let anyone, including yourself, tell you that you can't if it is something that God has called you to do. He can open any door.

ITT: Do you do any songwriting? If so, give InTheTimes.com girls a little insight on the songwriting process for you--how long have you been writing, is there a specific type of song that you prefer to write or that you feel you are gifted to write, etc. ?

Korey: I do write some and have been since I was 11 or so. It's just a great form of expression for me, and I’m definitely a "feel" writer as opposed to a "calculated" writer.

Therefore for me, normally when something moves me--watching a movie or some real life experience that needs resolve, I take that strong feeling and go to the piano.

Music always comes to me first, and fairly easily. I get a sense of what I want to communicate lyrically, maybe get a significant phrase and then labor over the rest of the lyrics.

My favorite type of song to write would definitely be worship songs.

ITT: Above all, what is the goal of your music / concerts--why you do what you do, what you hope your songs will communicate to the listeners, etc. ?

Korey: My hope is that people leave our concerts fulfilled, having gotten what they needed.

This is a fairly nebulous answer, but everyone comes to our concerts with different needs. People come from different places in life, everyone has needs, whether that be healing, inspiration, hope, vision, expansion, freedom, love, direction, salvation, etc.

Whatever the individual needs, God knows and the goal is that the person is touched by Him.

Another goal is that every single night we rock their faces off--great musicianship and crazy stage presence, excellent sound and lights, always striving to do better tonight than last night.
