Cadia "Inside Out" / Editor's Currently Listening To

Thursday, January 8th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

Hi InTheTimes.com Girls!

Cadia's single "Inside Out" is currently on mega-repeat! My fav lyrics? "Time to bring into the light / Everything we try to hide / Are you with me / Are you ready to shine / From the inside out / Who cares what it looks like"

It's easy sometimes to 'shy away' from who God made you to be. It's easy to try to cruise through life, not really 'making a production' But God has called us to 'shine' in this dark world!

Fun fast fact, fav Singer / Songwriter Nichole Nordeman helped pen this track!

If you haven't heard the single, click the link above to preview it for free!

Rosanna Fiorazo Interview

Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

InTheTimes.com Entertainment Channel Rosanna Fiorazo Interview Thanks for reading my InTheTimes.com feature! Click here to visit my web site for more info!

ITT: When did your love of music start? Do you play any instruments?

Rosanna: My love of music started as young as two years old. I was memorizing songs from the radio then and singing them out loud. I was singing or humming something all the time. Later on I learned to play acoustic guitar and the main reason I started playing was so I could write songs more effectively.

ITT: When / how did you decide that you wanted to sing / write professionally? Any advice / encouragement for InTheTimes.com girls who desire to be a professional singer like yourself?

Rosanna: I actually started writing songs over 20 years ago and it was always something I wanted to pursue. Unfortunately, it didn’t pay the bills, so I did it on the side until I came to know Jesus as my Savior. Since then, the drive to do this professionally has been immense because there’s no greater subject in the universe to write or sing about than our God!

I would suggest investing in vocal / instrument lessons to develop your voice / instrument and set goals for yourself for improvement. Take care of your body because not only is it the Holy Spirit’s temple, but a body that doesn’t work well will have a voice that doesn’t work well. If it’s God’s will for your life, it will happen. Be patient and always ask the Lord for guidance along the way.

ITT: Give InTheTimes.com girls a little insight on the songwriting process for you--how long have you been writing, is there a specific type of song that you prefer to write or that you feel you are gifted to write, etc. ?

Rosanna: I first started writing poems as a child, it came naturally to me to write down my thoughts and deep feelings. Then a few years later I began to write songs.

It can come as a melody first, then I'll apply the lyric. Or it can come out of doing devotions and meditating on a scripture, or perhaps even doing a study on a particular theme in the Bible.

I feel my gifting or strength is to write songs that are simply prayers to the Lord. These prayers come in relation to what is going on in my life at the time. It’s just honest communication with God, the only One who sees me that vulnerable.

ITT: Above all, what is the goal of your music / concerts--why you do what you do, what you hope your songs will communicate to the listeners, etc. ?

Rosanna: The simplest goal is for my music to cause people to leave the concert feeling closer to the Lord and encouraged in their faith. For those who are not saved, to be open to taking that step of trusting Jesus with their life.

I want to communicate to both the lost and the brokenhearted that there is a God that truly loves them unconditionally. He wants to tend to their needs and heal their brokenness. I want them to know that there is a hope on this earth, no matter how out of control it may seem down here.

God in heaven watches us, He listens to us, He loves us and knows the deepest desires of our hearts, desires that we may not even know exist.

I want people to know they have a specific purpose to fulfill, and God planned that purpose before they were born, see Ephesians 2:10. How awesome is that? If my songs are the only 'Jesus' they encounter in their lives, I want to represent Him well.

ITT: Give the InTheTimes.com girls a behind the scenes idea of what it was like recording your latest album "Haven't You Heard"--how long does it typically take to complete one song, do you basically 'live' in the studio during this process, etc.

Rosanna: I recorded the basic tracks in Nashville where Studio Musicians were hired. I then proceeded to record my vocal tracks in Appleton, Wisconsin where I live. That process took a few months because my voice was still in the process of healing from vocal polyps and the affects of acid reflux. During this process, some overdubs were being recorded in Nashville, ya know, finishing touches like mandolin and cello. We were working on choir parts here in Appleton as well. Then it all came together and voila, a new CD was born.

Hi InTheTimes.com Girls!

Natalie Grant's single "I Will Be" is currently on mega-repeat! My fav lyrics? "Where there is conflict I will be peace / Only by the power of Your Spirit that's living in me"

We are faced with decisions to promote conflict on a daily basis... How awesome to 'turn the other cheek' and instead promote peace! This is impossible without leaning on God, tapping into the power of His Holy Spirit living on the inside of us!

Jeni Varnadeau / Something Changed Stories Behind the Songs --- Part III

Monday, January 5th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

InTheTimes.com Entertainment Channel Jeni Varnadeau Something Changed Stories Behind the Songs Part Three Thanks for reading my InTheTimes.com feature! Click here to visit my web site for more info!

I Am Winter >>>

I wrote this song, just from an idea that came to me, the picture that if my life were without Christ it would be like winter. In winter, it's cold, the leaves are off the trees, the wind is harsh, and there is not much life.

My favorite verse is Jeremiah 17:7-8 and I so want to be the tree described there. Because that tree trusts in God, it never seems to face a winter. When it does face winter, or super hot climates, it's still the same flourishing, nourishing tree -- steadfast, strong, beautiful, and unmoving. I want to be that tree.

Afraid >>>

Each of my albums has to have one song with some sort of nursery rhyme / fairy tale-type thing in it. This song is my token song for that requirement.

Here we allude to Alice in Wonderland, the song wasn't birthed out of some deep experience, it's just the words that came when I was writing with my co-writer and producer on this song, Tommy Collier.

But when I go back and reflect on the song, I often have to sit and evaluate my life, and say, hey, do I have some areas in my life where I am afraid? Afraid to trust? Afraid to miss out? Afraid to mess up? Afraid I'll let myself down? Fear laces through all of us, and I believe that faith is the weapon that fights it and of course, Love casts it out.

Is This My Address >>>

I wrote this song in Finland with a girl I met there at an arts camp where my husband and I were teaching singing. I really liked her writing style, and asked if we could write together.

When we got together to write, we were talking about where we were in our lives, and we both felt like we were in the same place. Which was, we didn't feel like we really had a place! We didn't feel like we were necessarily out of God's will, but didn't feel like we were living in that place where you know you're just exactly where you're supposed to be, and doing what you were made to do.

If we didn't have Christ, we'd feel super lost!! At least we know when we follow Him, that it'll all get figured out in His time.
