Easter and Overdressing

Q: Why does it seem like people go overboard and really overdress on Easter Sunday for Church ?
Ruth: I don't know where this "tradition" originated. (lol) But, I'll put it on my list of Things To Do to find out and report back here later! (smile)
You're right, this is a trend that we'll see in Churches all over the world on Easter Sunday. The fact that we can't immediately pinpoint where this "tradition" came from, proves that something has been "lost in the translation" (if you will) over time in "Church culture".
Unfortunately, a lot of people (ok, mostly women) are merely looking at Easter Sunday as "Fashion Show time" at Church. As we've discussed numerous times at ITT (see this article for more info) there is nothing wrong with being fashionable at Church, or anywhere else. But, as with anything else, we really have to examine our motivations for wearing what we wear.
So yeah, Easter Sunday should be about corporately, within the local Church body, celebrating the Resurrection of our LORD and Savior Jesus Christ, and everything that represents.
I always like to re-read through the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) in the Bible every year at this time, to remind myself of the real Easter legacy. I encourage ITTgirls & Co. to do the same!
