Hi ITT girls!

Welcome to another segment of our Summer Skin Care series! Last week, we established some basic Summer skin care tips. This week, we discuss in more detail Sunblock. More tips coming soon!

Have an ultra fabulous Summer!

5 Things to Know about Sunblock...

+ Sunblock vs. Sunscreen: There is a difference between the two. "Sunblock" does exactly that, block the sun's UV rays. While "sunscreen" absorbs ultraviolet light, so that it doesn't reach our skin. Sunblock tends to be "thicker" in texture, while sunscreen "lighter".

+ The Stronger the Better: Look for a high SPF (Sun Protection Factor), above SPF 15 is ideal. Look for a brand that is "hypoallergenic" and "fragrance-free" to cut back on the irritation factor. A "water resistant" sunblock doesn't come off as easy when you are swimming / sweating.

+ Apply Correctly: Don't skimp out on applying product, apply generously! Sunblock is meant to be used, holding on to product too long kills the "life" of the product--which means it won't work effectively any more. It takes time for sunblocks power to kick in, so apply at least 30 minutes before going outside. For prolonged activity outside, re-apply at least every 2 hours, because sunblock comes off.

+ Know the Facts: All skin types / tones should use sunblock, even if you don't think that you "burn". The sun shines its strongest from about 10 AM to 4 PM, so use sunblock throughout the year, especially during these peak times.

+ Utilize Other SPF Products: Many other cosmetics now include SPF protection. Look for face moisturizers, lip balm / lip gloss / lipstick, make-up / foundation, body lotion, etc. for easy daily SPF use.
