Talk soon!
RUTH

ITT: Have you always wanted to own your own business in addition to being a Recording Artist?

Kristin: For several years now, I've had in the back of my mind that I would like to have some type of business. I've often daydreamed about owning a coffee shop or small boutique where I could feature local artists and musicians' work.

I'm also a fairly crafty person and a few years back began making scarves and selling them, so when Marilyn Brown approached me with this opportunity, it felt really natural.

ITT: Where did the name "Apronique" come from? What does it mean / symbolize?

Kristin: Apronique was the idea and vision of my business partner Marilyn Brown. Her idea was to create aprons that were unique and boutique in design, thus meshing that together to become "Apronique".

ITT: Apronique aprons aren't "traditional" boring aprons...we've seen powder pink, zebra print, camo, polka dots...very fashionista friendly! Tell InTheTimes.com girls a bit about your inspiration around the designs?

Kristin: To Marilyn and I, the tradition of aprons is much more than just a garment you throw on while cooking. It's about hospitality, the art of entertaining, creating memories and traditions new and old.

Aprons aren't old fashioned anymore, and we wanted ours to be fun and unique, so we keep fashion trends like popular colors and prints in mind when thinking of new designs. They can be classic, contemporary, funky, or multi-purposed, and each apron has it's own personality, allowing the wearer to make their own statement that reflects their personality.

ITT: Where can InTheTimes.com girls buy their own Apronique design for themselves, their mom, or for a gift?

Kristin: Our aprons are available at our web site. We also have aprons available in some retail locations, these shops are listed on the web site. We believe Apronique aprons are a great gift for any occasion.

ITT: Is there any way that InTheTimes.com girls can help you get Apronique designs carried in their local retail stores?

Kristin: If you would like to see our products in a local shop, please have them contact us through our web site. Once the aprons appear in the shop, as a thank you, we will send a free autographed apron to the girl who began the process for us!

Alisa Childers on Her Artwork

Thursday, April 16th, 2009 at 12:00 AM by Ruth Tynes / Online Editor / InTheTimes.com

InTheTimes.com Fun Channel Alisa Childers on Her Artwork Thanks for reading my InTheTimes.com feature! Click here to visit my web site for more info!

ITT: Tell InTheTimes.com girls about your artwork ! How did you get started, any future goals / plans with it, your favorite piece, etc.

Alisa: I started painting a couple of years ago after someone gave me the book Searching For God Knows What by Don Miller. I absolutely devoured that book. It was like he was saying certain things that have been swimming around in my head, that I hadn't been able to express.

It's not a book about art, but it's about how silly it is to try to put God into a formula. Jesus interacted with every person in a unique and creative way. When I was able to let go of the formulaic mindset, I began to see all these faces in my head, teeming with emotion.

I went down to the art supply store, and tried desperately to look like I knew what I was doing! I bought a sketch pad, some charcoal, and an eraser. A few hours later, all the faces in my head were strewn around my guest bedroom in black and white.

A few months later, I mustered the courage to paint in oil. I took an Introduction to Oil Painting class on a Saturday, and learned all about the chemicals, how they work together, and the different types of mediums on which to paint.

I think I started to develop my own style from there. So many things began to pour out of me that were captured in a different way than with music. For me, art is purely a way to express myself. I have given some paintings to my friends, and I have some hanging in my house, but it's not a business for me. It's a way of casting a different light on things, and bringing an unexpected viewpoint to something beautiful.
